You Don't Take a Photograph, You Make It

Why Photography Matters

/

In a world over saturated with images, it’s easy to forget the true power of a photograph. Every day we scroll past them, on our phones, in ads, on social media. But every once in awhile a photo stops us in our tracks. Not because its technically perfect, but because it feels like something; a memory, grandmas cookies, a lost love, and more. It reminds us of who we are, where we’ve been, or what we’ve survived.

Photography Matters!

Sure photography captures how something looks, but for me it’s deeper than that. It’s about perseving memories and moments. It’s about a look exchanged between two lovers or the expression of happiness on a mother’s face when she knows her little one is soon to arrive.

Beyond the memory, photography is also a form of creative story telling. Every session is a narrative waiting to unfold. The location, the colors, the lighting, the angles – they’re elements of a visual language that I personally use to express something deeper. Something emotional. Something human (or not so human).

Every session I approach, I not only think about technical aspects such as camera settings and composition, I’m thinking about CHARACTER and MOOD. I often send out a questionaire that highlights some aspect of someones life. How can I tell your story? What impact should these photos make on the viewer.

Creative storytelling allows us to reimagine ourselves, even for a small moment in time. It let’s us step us into our own mythologial invention. We are the main character. The image becomes a part of our narrative legacy. We can be heroic, wild, bold or just soft and vulnerable. Photography gives us a chance to be seen.

And that is exactly what I do, I tell a story. I help people envision who they really want to be. My camera isn’t just a tool, it’s a creative writing pen. And together we get to write a meaningful, lasting, entirely your own story together. So the next time you look at old photos or consider booking a session, ask yourself this, “What story do you want to tell?”

If you’re ready to capture your story in a way thats real, artful, and super unforgetable that will leave your friends and family in complete awe, let’s create something beautiful together.
